The Joffre
Lakes Provincial Park is located on the spectacular Duffey Lake
Road north of Pemberton, BC. There is a short hike to the Lower
Joffre Lake as well as the longer hike past the Middle Joffre Lake
and along the Upper Joffre Lake to the Matier Glacier. The turquoise
colour of the lakes is as spectacular as those of the lakes in the
Rockies.
Lower Joffre Lake trail: This is a short and easy
walk of just a few minutes that takes you to the lowest of the three
Joffre lakes. The Lower Joffre Lake is very calm and can be a great
place to take pictures with the reflection of the lake.
Middle and Upper Joffre Lakes trail: This is a
moderate hike of about 5 hours which takes you by the lower, middle
and upper Joffre lakes to the Matier Glacier. You will pass through
old growth forest, sub alpine forest and will cross the Joffre creek
a few times. Good hiking shoes are recommended for this trail as
there are a few places with rock falls. |
